REI, Nordstrom Rack to Open at New Upscale Mall

VERNON HILLS, IL – Area shoppers will soon have more retail options as a new upscale mall recently broke ground in Vernon Hills. Located on nearly 33 acres at the northeast corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Townline Road, Mellody Farm has already signed on some major tenants, including Whole Foods, outdoor retailer REI, Home Goods and Nordstrom Rack with plans to announce more stores and restaurants in the coming months.The $200 million project will also include a residential component with 260 apartments on site, according to the Vernon Hills Review.

New Fulton Market apartment tower on the market

The developers of a 29-story apartment tower in the Fulton Market neighborhood have put the “For Sale” sign up, even before taking the “For Rent” sign down.

A group led by Chicago-based Shapack Partners has hired CBRE to sell the Parker Fulton Market, a 227-unit tower at the southwest corner of Lake and Halsted streets that opened last summer.

First residents started moving into complex in May

Community and business leaders are welcoming the opening of the 149-unit Courthouse Square Apartments complex in downtown Wheaton.

“It’s a terrific project, and I’m looking forward to having a lot of new neighbors in downtown Wheaton,” Wheaton City Councilman John Rutledge said during a grand opening celebration Sept. 7 hosted by the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce.

Mellody Farm shops-apartments proposal moves forward in Vernon Hills

A proposed $200 million plan for a retail center anchored by Whole Foods and luxury apartments at the northeast corner of routes 21 and 60 in Vernon Hills is moving through the approval process.

A retail center promising to incorporate hip urban elements reminiscent of Chicago’s Wicker Park or west Loop neighborhoods in a suburban setting has been recommended for approval by a Vernon Hills advisory board.

A three-story building with 260 luxury apartments also is a key element of the proposed $200 million Mellody Farm development unanimously approved Wednesday by the village’s planning and zoning commission. The recommendation was to allow residential development at the northeast corner of Milwaukee Avenue (Route 21) and Townline Road (Route 60); development of a mixed-use property with variations for building height, landscape buffer, signs, parking and other elements; and permits to allow restaurants that may serve alcohol and/or have a drive-through.
