The story of the luxury real estate market in Chicagoland is really a tale of two markets. The city’s skyline is dotted with cranes as new buildings go up to accommodate more high-end apartments and condos. But in the suburbs, a dearth of new homes has led to strong demand among luxury buyers for existing homes and the few new developments that are under way.
Orren Pickell (Orren Pickell Building Group), Tim Anderson (Focus), Mayor Don Schoenheider (Lake Forest), Jack Reisenberg (Lake Forest 3rd ward Alderman) and Christine Kolb (Focus) scoop a ceremonial first dig at the Kelmscott Park residential property site November 3 morning in Lake Forest.
LAKE FOREST — Lake Forest officials and representatives of the real estate and development communities broke ground November 3 on Kelmscott Park, which will add a mix of 165 new housing opportunities at the northwest corner of Laurel and Western Avenues.
Northfield-based Focus Development and its exclusive sales and marketing representative, @properties, announced the start of sales for Kelmscott Park, a new maintenance-free community of condominiums and luxury single-family homes in east Lake Forest. An on-site sales center featuring kitchen and bath vignettes, a scale model and renderings of the homes is now open.
Located at Laurel and Western avenues at the north end of downtown Lake Forest, Kelmscott Park’s for-sale offerings include 12 single-family homes and 42 condominiums.

The house was put on the market. It was sold.
“She needs to be out of the house by mid-August,” says the woman’s broker, Patti Skirving of Coldwell Banker-Winnetka. “It was overwhelming. It was difficult for her, stressful. There’s a lot of emotion involved, for many, when they downsize.”

The selection of a developer for this site concludes a process that initially started in 2007, was then put on hold until the economy stabilized, and was re-initiated in December, 2013 with the issuance of a Request for Developer Qualifications. Continue reading
